About the St. Martin Family
Pastoral Leadership & Staff
Rev. James Chinery is Senior Pastor at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Birch Run and has been serving there since 2010. Prior to accepting the call at St. Martin, Chinery served as Senior Pastor at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, MI for 4 years. He is currently 48 years old.
A native of Saginaw, MI, Chinery received his B.S. in Biology from Alma College, M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Illinois University, M.S. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis and his M.Div. from Luther Seminary in 2006. Before entering the seminary, Chinery worked as an occupational therapist, most recently as vice-president of operations for Legacy Healthcare Services out of Raleigh, N.C.
Reverend Chinery is a musician and an avid outdoorsman. He is the author of two novels, Bane and Blessing and Cleave the Darkness (suitable for ages 13 & up). He lives in Frankenmuth, MI with his wife, Beth, and their three children, Ruth, Ivan and Roxane.
